Hello Rebecca Thank you for posting your query with Health Care Magic Your daughter can be suffering from Hirschsprung Disease. This is a condition in which some part of her large intestine is not properly innervated (inadequate number of nerves). As a result, that part of the large intestine or colon is unable to propel stools forward. This results in constipation since birth. This disease is also marked by intermittent infection in the colon when the child develops diarrhea. It can progress to fever and severe dehydration and is termed Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis. Most important is to treat this episode of enterocolitis. It requires antibiotics and depending on the severity your daughter may require fluids also. I suggest you show your daughter to a pediatric surgeon as soon as possible. Once this episode has been dealt with, the second step will be confirming the diagnosis of Hirschsprung s disease. It includes a test where a dye is put through the anus and XRays are taken (Barium enema) and also biopsy. The treatment is surgical removal of that part with reduced nerves and restoration of normal colon. Hope that helps God bless you
