Are Tiredness, Frequent Infections And Excessive Thirst Symptoms Of Diabetes?
My A1C levels are at a 6.9 in June 2014. my doctor recommended that I lose 20% of my weight and exercise. I have lost about 10-15 pounds but I do not exercise. Lately, I am tired, I catch colds easily, sometimes I am excessively thirsty, I crave sweets (and I am not a big sweet eater) and recently my eyes tend to go out of focus (the feeling is like they are trembling and I am going cross eyed. I don t know any other way to explain it). Are these some syptoms that I could now be diabetic and should seek medical attention?
Diabetes can be diagnosed using fasting blood sugars, 2 hour post meal and also HbA1C. A HbA1c of greater than 6.5 is diagnostic of diabetes, this means that your reading of 6.9 would have diagnosed you as a diabetic.
As a diabetic, the goal is to get the HbA1c to less than 7 though some may aim to less than 6.5.
You should recheck your HbA1c to see where it is at the moment. Other aspects of diabetic care such as eye exam, kidney assessment, foot exam- would also be important.
I hope this helps
