Are There Interactions Between Sertraline And Buspirone?

Yes, I have a client (an acupuncture client) who is showing signs of deep depression and confusion, as well as a bad taste in her mouth (breath smells like rotten eggs), and she is taking two drugs prescribed by her MD for anxiety. I have looked them up, and it appears that their interaction is bad news-- high likelihood of serious interaction-- contraindicated unless no alternatives available. Do you know anything about combining sertraline and buspirone? Her doc increased both in July or August, and I feel as if I m seeing my normally upbeat, optimistic, high functioning client --just fall apart. I can t prove that the drugs are at fault, but she has no other health issues that the doctors have noted, nor can I find in from the eastern training that I ve received. Any suggestions?

Interactions between these two drugs would depend upon the dose. They are frequently used together to treat anxiety and depression but a high doses of both may result in serotonin syndrome. Let us know the doses and we could give you a better sense of whether or not there is risk of a serious drug interactions. It may be that she just has a very serious depression and the doctors are trying to treat that with the medications.
