Are There Any Side Effects Of Elevating The Dosage Of Cipramil?

I am a 77 year old femail. I have been taking Cipramil for many years. I am now on 2x 20 mg. Still depress due to my circumstances. Muy doctor suggested to go up to 3. Are there any known side effects for older people with taking a larger dose.? i have heard that this is the case. Kind regards, Berit

Cipramil (citalopram) above 40 mg per day is not recommended in the treatment of depression. It increases the risk for QT prolongation, an abnormality in the cardiac conduction system that can cause serious problems. And doses above 40mg/day is highly unlikely to have any benefit for the patient also.
I understand that you are on 2*20mg = 40mg/day. I would not put my patient on additional 20mg that is 60mg/day. Rather I would go for alternative antidepressants like fluoxetine or others.
