Hi, Aspirin is an Non steroidal anti inflammatory drug prescribed commonly for pain and as an anti-platelet drug. Platelets are a group of cells found in the blood that form a plug to seal the injured blood vessels from bleeding. Aspirin is an agent that prevents the normal function of platelet plug formation. Possible side effects are hemorrhagic stroke due to bleeding from the vessels in the brain. It prevents platelet plug formation and thus prevents the clotting which leads to hemorrhagic stroke. Gastric ulcer is the other significant side effect of the drug. It damages the mucosal layer of the stomach and forms an ulcer which may bleed on prolonged injury.
