Are there any risks in using both a pad and a tampon ?

Are there any risks in using both a pad and a tampon at the same time? I don t actually do this - but I was just wondering. Will trying to double up on protection, by wearing both a pad and a tampon at the same time, have any bad side effects? Aside from the extra waste =]

I am an adult and I have had my period for about 13 years. I have never used a tampon. I tried when I first got my period but gave up and never tried again. I live in a tropical location and I m sick of feeling all gross and sweaty because of pads. I don t know how to insert one. I don t know which ones to buy meaning what size. I don t want to buy ones with an applicator because I feel embarrassed that i have never used tampons before and applicators are for teenagers. Are tampons better ? Can you really swim with a tampon in? There is only one brand of tampon with an applicator that I have seen in Australia and that s Tampax but it seems to be the one that everyone is suggesting to use anyway
