Yes, this combination may cause dose dependent harmful interactions.
If taken together Amlodipine may significantly increase the blood levels of Simvastatin
. This can increase the risk of liver damage
and a rare but serious condition called rhabdomyolysis
that involves the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue.
In some cases, rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage and even death. The maximum recommended dose for Simvastatin when taken along with Amlodipine should not be more than 20 mg/day.
So, consult your doctor right away if you experience muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; unexplained tiredness; or discolored urine. Your doctor may prescribe alternative effective medication to lower the high blood cholesterol
