Are The Weight Loss Drugs Addictive And Cause Insomnia, Having Hemochromatosis?

i am a 64 year old woman who is overweight. i am a recovering alcholic and also have hemachromatosis. i take trazadone at night to sleep. i had a difficult divorce and while i am not clinically depressed anymore, i do eat emotionally and know that is why i have gained weight. i am 5 8.5 and weigh 205 pounds which is way too much. i have been investigating the weight loss prescription drugs but am not sure i would be a candidate because they all appear to cause insomnia and are addictive. thoughts?

You are right: you are not a candidate for prescription weight loss drugs. They are in the same class of drugs as amphetamines, can cause insomnia, and are addictive. Even many of the over-the-counter weight loss aids may be similar to amphetamines. In the long run, they are not particularly effective anyway. I wonder, too, in your case if they will really do much to reduce your appetite since you are eating for emotional reasons. The best way to lose weight is the old boring "diet and exercise" and avoiding drugs that could cause more problems than they resolve. In addition, regular exercise helps with emotional problems such as depression and stress. Hope this helps.
