Are The Cramps And Heavy Flow The Symptoms Of Pregnancy?

I had unsafe sex march 19 and on march 26 I got my period and it was normal. Then yesterday I got my period but it was different. The cramps hurt worse and my flow was heavier. And I got really sick to my stomach. Today I feel fine and the bleeding stopped. Could I be pregnant?

Hallow Dear,

Heavy bleeding is never a sign of pregnancy; in fact any bleeding during pregnancy is risk to the pregnancy. Pregnancy is characterized by cessation of menstruation.

At this age, such heavy bleeding is usually due some hormonal disturbances. Thyroid dysfunction is very common at this age and low Thyroid function is associated with heavy menstrual bleeding. Please get your T3, T4 and TSH examined. Hypothyroid state can be treated with Levothyroxin.

Your painful menstruation seems to be dysmenorrhoea. You may get relief from it with some anti-spasmodic analgesics like Meftal Spas.

If such events recur in future, please report to your Gynaecologist.
