Are Tests Necessary For Low Heart Rate?

Grandson was feeling sick, went to work. He was in Marines, good condition, 24 years old, has heavily physical job in oilfield. He passed out/nearly passed out. Needs to return to work. Dr. Says heart rate is too low, below 50. (46). Wants to run tests. He passed DOT physical a few weeks ago with no question. Are tests necessary ? Some clinic doctors here like to keep people coming back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Sir,
The basic heart rate in young athletic person with heavy physical work is always low say around 50-60....as body accomodates for hogh cardiac output.
But on otherhand few cardiac diseases may also cauuse low heart rate.
Like chronic heart block and in electrocardiogram rhythm is always more important than rate.
So if the ekg shows normal rhythm wid heartbeat in range of 50-60...u need not to worry.
But dont forget to visit a physician if symptoms like syncope or sudden loss of conciousness occurs.
Thanks
Hope I answered ur queries.
