Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Swelling And Pain On The Finger Symptoms Of A Sprain?
I was involved in a dog bite incident yesterday and only had two small puncture wounds. Today my middle finger on my right hand is swollen to twice its size and painful to bend. The puncture is already closed and I see no red streaks or bruising below the skin. Is out possible I sprained it? I have been iceing it every 1 1/2 hr but it is still very swollen today.
The symptoms are more likely suggestive of sprain. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief. You can also apply ice compresss also.
If symptoms persists better to consult an orthopaedician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
