Are Stomach Pain And Pain In The Abdomen Related?

Hi, I ve had stomach pain for several years. My mom has been a nurse for 20 years, so she figured some things out by process of elimination. She put me on Omeprizol (or however you spell it, my mom also calls it Prailisec(?) sometimes), and I took it each day, consecutively, for probabaly a year... The 14-day treatments didn t work. She said that my stomach was probably just producing too much acid and creating an ulcer... It felt like really painful air bubbles in my stomach, but passing gas didn t always help. Anyway, after taking medication regularly for a while, my stomach pain went away, and I didn t need to be on medication anymore. Now, after almost a year of no trouble, by stomach pain has returned, mainly when I eat spicy things or something with red sauce. My plan is to return to the other medication that helped, but that s not really my question...sorry for such a long introduction: tonight, some really sharp abdomen pain woke me up and my stomach felt really acidic. The pain in my abdomen was different than I ve felt before, and my stool was green and really soft, I actually had to look in the toilet to make sure it wasn t just diarrhea. Do you think the two pains are connected? I don t want to get worried if it s nothing, but I don t know if this is normal...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to enteroviruses. I suggest using an over the counter option for diarrhea such as Imodium. I also suggest using daily probiotics.

I suggest using a spasmolytic such as Buscopan 10 mg three times a day for the stomach pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
