Are Stitches Needed For Bleeding After Removing Implanon?

I got my implanon implant removed today and there is a large hole- initially the nurse dressed it but didn't put any stitches- since then i've had to change my dressing because it keeps bleeding- will it heel by itself with a plaster on it or will it need stitches? Thanks

Hello,

After removal of Implanon, the incision is closed by steri-strips or adhesive bandage. It can be removed after 5 days. Ideally stitches are not put. However, when the incision is bigger the provider may apply dissolvable stitches which help healing in 7-10 days. You may get a small scar. If there is bleeding at the incision site you are suggested to get it examined in the ER, if needed you can take the stitches.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
