Are Sore Throat, Cough With Phlegm And Conjunctivitis Related?

Hi, I've had a bad cold with flu symptoms for 6 days since Tues, been off work since Thurs, developed conjunctivitis 4 days ago and now bad nosebleed - are these all related? I still feel ill but not as bad, but still have very sore throat, sore to swallow, bad cough, phlegm, and the conjunctivitis. Is it okay to go back to work or would I still be quite contagious?
Also - i had vaccinations 2wks for HepA, HepB, Tetanus and Typhoid incase related?
Thanks

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if sore throat, cough with phlegm and conjunctivitis which is due to bacterial infection leading to strep throat. It can also occur due to viral infection like viral pharyngitis. But in your case the symptoms seems to be related with allergic reaction like allergic rhinitis .

I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. You should take Diphenhydramine and Dextromethorphan for 4-5 days. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take you take nasal decongestant sprays, antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Wear sun glasses .

If condition doesn't get better then consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment .Do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day. Take ibuprofen one tablet twice daily. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Throat lozanges one every 4 hours is helpful.

Doctor may also refer you to allergy specialist for allergy and ophthalmologist for eye problem .Drink luke warm water throughout the day as it can provide relief.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
