Are Sore Breasts A Normal Symptom Of Hypothyroidism?

Hi I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since 2009, after having a baby. I have been taking thyroxine and was doing great, no problems for all these years. About 5 months ago I decided to go off my hormone and now am very tired, losing my hair and have really sore breasts and are very lumpy. I went back on my meds 4 weeks ago but my breasts are really sore - is this a normal symptom of hypothyroidism?

Hi, I went through your query. Hairfall and tiredness are prominent symptoms of hypothyroidism but not breast soreness. Breast soreness and lumpiness is probably due to hormonal causes related to menstruation, called cyclical mastalgia woth nodularity. It is usually related to the menstrual cycle. It appears some time before your periods and goes off once your menstruation is over. That is the usual type. However I advise you to consult a surgeon for clinical examination, get an ultrasound and fine needle aspiration cytology of breasts done to rule out anything serious definitely. Hope this helps.
