Are Sneezing And Swollen Watery Eyes Allergic Reactions To Fruits?

I am a 65 y/o male. Only allergy is hayfever. This morning I ate a banana with a glass of orange juice, pretty routine prior to a workout at the YMCA. Within 5 minutes I began sneezing, eyes started watering. After another 5-7 minutes my right eye was nearly swollen shut while the left was not quite that bad. Could I have an acute allergic reaction to bananas even though I have never had issues before? I took 100 of benadryl (6 4 240 lbs) and used Flonase. Twelve hours later the swelling hs decreases substantially. Thank you.

As per your complain the symptoms of sudden sneezing,watery eyes and swelling of eyes seems to be due to allergic reaction only and although it is not necessarily be due to bananas but can be due to exposure to any other allergen that you are accidentally exposed to..
But the exact cause can be ruled out after a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations to rule out the cause of allergic reaction..
I would therefore suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
You can be advised to get investigations like Prick test, Patch test, RAST test and food challenge done to rule out the exact cause of allergic reaction..
Once the cause is diagnosed, preventing exposure to the allergen can help in preventing allergy attack..
You can also be instilled Immunotherapy to reduce the severity of allergic symptoms..
As of now you can take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Benadryl..
