Are Puffiness And Dry Skin Under The Eyes Signs Of Psoriasis?

Hello. I am a 62 year old post menopausal woman in general goof health. I take 2 thyroid medications twice daily. I recently got the spots on my legs diagnosed as psoriasis. I am using a tar ointment on them. In addition, I have been experiencing increasingly puffy, blotchy, dry/wrinkly skin under my eyes. Is this connected to the psoriasis or something different. I have a follow up appointment with the dermatologist, but it s not until the end of December. I m wondering what, if anything, I could put under my eyes that might help.

Hi,

Psoriasis may not be related to puffy, swollen skin under eyes. As per your age, you are taking thyroid medications but it's not related to it. So it may be due to allergies or change in your blood pressure or skin infection i.e. dermatitis etc. so I would like to advise you following things for a better outcome.

Reduce salt intake in your food.
Apply water three times a day on your eyes and face.
Apply lotion for dry skin without a scratch.
You can also try cucumber slices over the area.
Take regular sleep and have rest.
Take enough water for better hydration and clearance of toxins from the body.
Try over the counter drugs like NSAIDs for relief of swelling.

And still, things don't work, visit your dermatologist as available.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
