Are prolonged chest congestion and cold a matter of concern?

I have had a cold/running noise, chest phlegm and headache I am going on 3 weeks, it is getting better, last week it was green phlegm, this week it is very light yellow, but I still have a cough and mild headache and no energy. I have purchased over the counter Mucinex and cough medication. Drinking lots of water, and resting as much as I can. I am still working full time job, when I get home it is rest, rest, rest. Should I be concerned that I am going on week 3? I am basically a healthy person, only going to the doctor for annual check ups, so for this cold I figured it would run its course - I eat healthy, am a non smoker, and exercise.

Dear you may be suffering from acute bronchitis, use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.

I have a head cold and am very congested in my chest. My doctor gave me some antibiotic pills, but it didn t help. I was feeling out of breath easily. I started feeling better, but still have some what of a head cold, my chest is not as congested. I still have yellowish mucus from my nose and chest. I am a smoker, but have cut down a lot. My doctor gave me some cough medicine, it helps; but at night i wake up coughing my head off, should I be concerned of more serious problems of my lungs or is it a virus that is hard to get rid of?

Hi Dr Santosh, My 5 yr son ( full term baby) hardly used to catch a cold and once about 6 months ago, he spent prolonged time in a swimming pool when it was quite cold. Since then when he catches a cold, it immediately turns a chest congestion and vomits a lot of phlem. Have been able to control with home medication but once had to take to doctor and he was put on nebulizers levolin and budecort. Is this a cause for concern. Thank you.
