Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Lower Abdominal Pain And Constipation Signs Of Diverticulitis?
I woke up yesterday and had lower abdominal pain. Right above the public hair line. When I sit it is painful, when I push on the lower abdoment it is painful. I had trouble having a bowel movement yesterday so I took a laxative last night. Went to the bathroom this morning but still discomfort in the same area and when I sit. I believe it is either irritable bowel syndrome or diverticulitis.
* A single episode of pain in abdomen with bowel movement difficulty does not necessarily indicate the obvious presence of diverticulitis.
* Part of irritable bowel syndrome can be considered when the alternate pattern of digestion more in relation with stress is noticed over a period of time, not just once.
* After the clearance of bowels, if pain persists, consult your general practitioner to rule out recent intestine infection or other issues responsible for the current presentation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
