Are Low Iron Levels And Hypothyroidism Related?

Low iron levels and hypothyroidism , are they related? I keep having low iron levels for no apparent reason, no bleeding , no other diseases, other than being Hypothyroid. Male, 39, non-smoker, no previous health history other thatn, sub-acute silent, thyroiditis about 10 years ago. I take .75mcg synthroid daily. My doctor says, they are not related but everything I read says it is???
