Are Itchy And Burning Hives A Cause For Concern?

I am experiencing what appears to me hives for the past 5 days... Red welts that itch and come and go away... Hands. And feet burn and itch especially innthe a.m.hours.... Im also experiencing some feeling in my esophagus that feels like bad indigestion that comes and goes... Im very helthy 55 yer old femle... No other physiclal problems ... Do not take any meds....eat well... Excercise regulary... I tried only 1 benedryl and it made me drowsy which i hate! It did seem to help though...how concerned should i be

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that itching and welts on hand and feet can be due to causes like allergic reaction to any food or medicine while can also be Contact Dermatitis that occurs due to allergic reaction to skin cosmetics or any detergents or other things like latex, leather, poison ivy etc..
It can also be due to mite infestation known as Scabies.
Another cause can be hair follicle infection also known as Folliculitis that is bacterial infection of hair follicles..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to take anti-allergics like Allergra or Benadryl, application of Steroid ointment over the rashes, do cool compresses..
In case of Scabies topical Premethrin lotion and Oral Ivermectin can be advised..
Folliculitis can be treated with Oral and topical antibiotics..
