Are Irregular Period Flow A Cause Of Concern?

I m 19 years old and sexually active with my boyfriend. I have normal periods and have never missed one. I am not on any birth control either. My period came on time this month but it wasn t like my other periods. It s very gooey...is it normal? Or should I be worried?

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Unprotected intercourse can lead to pregnancy. If there is a change in the pattern or amount of flow, duration of flow of periods or delayed periods, then one should confirm the diagnosis by doing urine pregnancy test. If it is negative, then other causes like hormonal disturbances like hypothyroidism, hyperprolactemia or polycystic ovarian disease should be ruled out.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
