Are Hives Due To The Side Effects Of Tamoxifen?

I am currently taking tamoxifen 20mg a day in hopes of precenting breast cancer from returning. I had dcis - surgery to remove but no radiation or chemo was required. Very strong famliy history of cancer --all types. I started tamoxifen about a month ago - two weeks in I had two teeth pulled the next day woke up with a little rash - tiny hives. It went away in a few days -two nights ago I took a 1/4 of sleeping pill - yesterday more hives this time bigger. Is this a side effect of tamoxifen?

Hi,

Tamoxifen belongs to the group of medications known as selective estrogen receptor modulator that is used in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer in women and men. Tamoxifen may cause symptoms of allergic reactions like hives, skin rashes, itching, redness, swelling of lips, tongue, eyes, face, throat, hands or feet, tightness in the chest or throat, touble breathing, difficulties in swallowing or talking, wheezing, blistered skin or peeling skin etc. If you notice such type of allergic reactions during taking this medication, then you should consult your doctor immediately for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
