Are Dental Treatments Recommended Safe During Breastfeeding?

Hi, I actually have a couple questions... One is I think I have a burn on be roof of my mouth from eating food that was too hot, so what can I do to heal it? And the other question is I have a couple cavities but I am also breastfeeding so can I get dental work done still or do I need to wait until I'm done breastfeeding?

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you are breast feeding then there can be restriction of taking certain medications that can get secreted in breast milk and harm the baby..
But still there are safer medications that can be given to breast feeding mother for reducing pain and infection that is the most common occurrence in dental problems, therefore can be treated well..

Now answers to your questions:

1.In case if you have got burn over the roof of mouth from eating very hot food, you can do cool water rinses for reducing inflammation and burning sensation..
-You can take Acetaminophen or Tylenol if there is pain..
-Avoid spicy, very hot and hard foods..
-Drink plenty of cool water for faster relief..

2.If you have cavities in your teeth then they can either be treated by doing fillings if the cavities are not deep enough to involve the nerves..
If the cavities are deep either root canal treatment can be done if tooth can be saved and extraction can be advised if the tooth cannot be saved..

In case if you are given any such antibiotic that can be harmful for your baby then you can be advised to stop breastfeeding your baby for a few days till you take the medication and can give him/her formula milk..

So you can very much go for dental treatments without any difficulty..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
