Are Cough, Sore Throat And Chest Pain Symptoms Of A Viral Infection?

I have had a cough for a while and have begun producing very thick, yellow gritty mucus which is thick enough so as to be very difficult to clear from my throat. I also have a very sore throat and pain in my chest. Is this a viral infection I just have to wait out or could there be something I can do about it?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It might be a viral infection . You have to keep yourself in observation. If it lasts more than 5 days, if fever procedes and symptoms doesn't get better it may be complicated by bacterial infection, pneumonia , and antibiotics maybe needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
