Are Chest Pain And Numbness In Fingers Symptom Of Heart Attack?

Are these signs of a mild heart attack? Should I seek immediate medical assistance? I was awakened by a slight chest pain, right side of breast bone. I am a side sleeper and when I lay on my side (either one) I am uncomfortable and have more pain in my chest and some numbness in some of my fingers. Sometimes there is a thin line down by back that has pain. Earlier today, I bent over & had stomach acid come up my throat. Last night I had numbing in my arms and some fingers as I slept.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Madam
Thanks for your query.
A pain chest with numbness of fingers can be a feature of heart attack but it will not vary with posture or will not come up in a particular posture. The association of pain to a particular posture decreases the possibility of it to be heart related many a times.
classical anginal pain comes on exertion, relives by rest and is behind breast bone. It may occur at rest, on any side of chest, both arms , lower jaw and up to umbilicus. It is more like a pressure on chest. It will not change with posture or cough or deep breath.
Regurgitation of acid on bending over is not a feature of heart attack.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Cardiologist Dr. Rajesh Teli's  Response
hello,i have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.
your symptoms which you narrated are less likely to be due to heart problem.Heart pain is usually central or over left side around nipple, and numbness or pain affects only left forearm. In your case it is not so.Moreover any symptoms classical or atypical due heart disease are aggravated or precipitated by exertion and relieved by rest.In your case i feel as you are side sleeper ,nerves of arm are getting compressed causing numbness in arm and fingers. Also your reflux of acid is causing pain in chest. So take PPI group of medicine for acidity and antireflux medicine like levosulpride and try to avoid to sleep on side.
My best wishes
