Are Chapped Lips And Sore Throat Signs Of STD

Hi. I had a one night stand with a man who claims he doesn t have any STDs. I was able to see his genitals and mouth and both looked clean. I woke up two days later with chapped lips, and a slight sore throat and now I have a common cold. is there any possibility of an STD or am I just paranoid? Note I have a history of having bronchitis.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

The symptoms that you have developed just 2 days after a risky sexual contact are not specific for an STD. They could be unrelated.
However, having said that it does'nt rule out with surety that you are free of STD's.
The kind of sexual exposure you had, STD's ought to be ruled out.
Some STD's may present as early as 36-72 hours like gonorrhea, herpes genitalis but a lot may not be obvious so early e.g warts, molluscum ,syphilis etc and are only detected by appropriate testing.
Therefore I would suggest that you get yourself tested for STD's at appropriate intervals, herpes at 2 weeks; HIV and VDRL (Syphilis) at 1 month and then repeat testing at 3 months.
In the mean time if you develop symptoms suggestive of an STD such as vaginal discharge, burning micturation, genital ulcers or erosions, genital growths or warts etc you must immediately get it checked with a sexual health specialist.
