Are Buzzing Sensations In My Head And Headache Side Effects Of Eliquis?

I started 5mg elequis yesterday. I am a 71 year old mail with afib. A couple of hours after taking my first dose I started feeling a kind of buzzing sensation in my head and it developed into a headache. I get migraines and take zomitriptan. Could this be a side effect of elequis?

Hi,

This just isn't likely. Obviously buzzing would be an issue with the ear or the nerves in the ear. Eliquis just affects blood interactions involved with coagulation. It is hard to see how one spot that the medicine has a hard time getting to would be affected only without a lot of other areas affected.
Cannot say in your particular case, but generally, bleeding in the brain is quite rare with Eliquis compared to other options for lowering coagulation. Furthermore, bleeding in the brain will produce a constant headache but usually other obvious stroke-like symptoms. A CT of the brain with contrast would rule out bleeding in the brain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
