Are Bone Spurs In Lower Jaw Causing Severe Pain Post Oral Surgery Normal?

I had oral surgery to remove all my remaining teeth, 15 total and implants. Currently I have hex screws and should get the posts in 9 more weeks. I am developing bone spurs or sharp areas in my lower jaw front. Twice they have broke through my gums and scratched the inside of my bottom lip. It is too painful to wear my temporary bottom teeth. Should I be contacting my oral surgeon on Monday or is this something I have to just deal with?

Hi...
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain you have sharp bone spurs called as BONY SPIKULES and this happens mostly when teeth are extracted and some sharp bone fragment is present in the extraction socket...

During healing process these segments remain sharp and at times they are sharp enough to traumatize the overlying gums specially when you wear dentures..

But here i would like to ask you that are you sure that it is bone spur and not any root piece left over below the gums??

In either case they will traumatize your gums when they are sharp and cause ulcers and pain..

You should visit your oral surgeon and get evaluated whether it is bone spur or root piece..

If it is a root piece he will extract it and if it is bone spur it can be very well removed by giving incision on your gums and removing the sharp bone spur by trimmming it and filing it and this process is called ALVEOLOPLASTY..

In both conditions you will definitely be cured..

Till the time you have this problem avoid wearing your artificial teeth to avoid furthur injury to your gums and apply some gum paint to reduce inflammation...

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
