Are Bleeding And Clots Normal After Mirena Iud Removal?

I am a 47 yr old female who had the Mirena IUD removed 8 days ago. Immediately upon removal, I had heavy bleeding with large clots. This occurs on and off since. This evening I have experienced 2.5 hours of heavy bleeding (4 pads within 1 hr) and large clots. Should I be seen for this?

Hi,

No, it's not normal to bleed that much. It can be due to injury or hormonal imbalance, bleeding disorder. Kindly do an ultrasound abdomen, liver function test, BT, CT to understand the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. S.R.Raveendran, Sexologist
