Are Black Bowel Movements After Taking Hydrocodone A Matter Of Concern?

I am a 70 year old woman, in good health. I took a fall down the basement stairs last week and broke my arm. I was taking hydrocodone for a day or two but have not had to take anything more for pain. In the last two days I have noticed my stools are dark, almost black. Should I be worried?

Hello,

The most likely and common cause of dark stool is diet.
The food that is brown in color, particularly vegetables may cause the dark color stool; if they are more iron contained.

Beside this, if the condition is associated with some gastrointestinal symptom like cramp and with the history of taking some pain killing medicine then it may cause the gastritis and gastrointestinal bleeding, It can be only a matter of concern.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
