Are Belly Cramps Indicative Of Pregnancy?

Hi, I had unprotected sex (I know I shouldn t have) about a month ago. We tried the pull out method, but after he pulled out we continued having sex again. I had sex on the 18th and got my period a few days later, on the 22th. I should get my period right about now and I m getting belly cramps. Is it possible that I m pregnant?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As it is about time to get your period, the belly cramps might be a premenstrual symptom and it should be relieved after your periods.

However, if you are concerned regarding your getting pregnant, you can go for a home pregnancy test with the first urine in the morning or you can go for blood test for pregnancy. I would like to point out for future that pull out method is not a good contraception method and it always carries risk of pregnancy due to presence of sperms in the pre-ejaculation fluid.

If you do not get relieved of abdominal cramps even after periods, you should contact your physician for presence of possible stomach infection.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
