Are Antibiotics Advisable For A Sharp Pain In The Lower Tooth?
This is a dental issue. I just left my dentist office. I went in for two things. One teeth cleaning and the other was to discuss a sharp pain on one of my lower teeth. The pain is actually traveling under my chin. While the dental hygienist was cleaning and examining my teeth she took a couple of x-rays. She told me that it looks like you have infection. The second hygienist looked at the x-rays and told me the same thing. They both told me the doctor will probably prescribe some antibiotics. Well the doctor came in examined my teeth, said I need two fillings and told me to schedule them. I said okay but what about antibiotics for the infection. He said antibiotics wont help you. Dismissed me and did not even give me any suggestions for the pain. Now my appointment is not till June 28. that is the earliest they can take me. meanwhile my face is still in pain and I m worried if I do have infection it might get worse. Any advise.
Hi..Can understand your concern...As per your query about pain in your lower tooth seems to be due to carious tooth which isnot too deep and can be restored for which the doctor didn't prescribed you antibiotics. The dental hygienist may have not observed the xray clearly. For pain you should take analgesic like Dolo 650 twice a day which he should have prescribed. If you still have confusion and not satisfied with his behaviour you can also take a second opinion with another dentist ..Do mouthwash like listerine 2-4 times .I hope you get relief with analgesics.I hope the information helps you.I will be glad to help you further if you attach your x rays with query.Take care.
