Are Abdominal Pain And Dark Stool Symptoms Of Diverticulitis?
I have been having abdominal pains and cramps for about 3 days. The pain in my abdomen is like a burning sensation. I have had bowel movements that are dark in color. Uusally about 15 to 20 minutes I have pains. I was diagnosed a few years with diverticulitis. Should I see my Physican due to these symptoms?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Dark stools may be due to a bleeding in your gastrointestinal system and you will need to see your doctor and have the right tests to rule it out. Having a fecal occult blood test might tell if you have blood in stools or not and also you might need to have a CBC to rule out anemia if the stool test shows blood. The doctor will have then to do the right tests to find out the cause of the bleeding and diverticulitis is one of the possible causes of abdominal pain and bleeding from the gastrointerstinal system.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
