Are Uloric And Colchicine For The Treatment Of Elevated Uric Acid Levels?

I was just prescribed medication today for the treatment of high uric acid (8.1) I have had 2 heart attacks and have stage 3 kidney disease. I take the following medications: Clopidogrel 5 mg tab, Ranitidine 150 mg tab, Isosorbide Monoir ER 30 mgTB, Meoprolol Suc ER 50 mg tab, Valsartan 80 MG Tab 2 tabs once daily. I was prescribed Uloric 40 mg and Colchicine 0.6 mg tab 1 tab on Mon., Wed, and Fri. Both of these meds can have serious side effects including up to death. I am very concerned about taking these meds. Please advise me.

Hi and Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor Service'. I have viewed your question and here is my advice.
Sorry to hear of your disease.Yes colchicine and uloric do can have side effects , but serious side effects has been very rare with either of these drugs. ulroric is commonly prescribed for high uric acid in people with kidney disease, and rarely cause any serious effect. It is safe in kidney disease, while the dose of the colchicne is reduced in grade 3 kidney disease thast whay already done for you . so you can use the drugs safely most of the times

Hopes this help you understand your problem, please feel free to ask anything else about it.
Kind Regards
Dr Rahman
