Are Taxim-O And Rinifol Drugs Effective For Diarrhea In Infants?

Hi Doctor, My 1 and 3 months old baby is suffering from loose motion, we went to doctor and doctor told us that she is suffering from diarrhea and prescribed Taxim-O and Rinifol but still there is no improvement. Please suggest its right medicine or not and how many days it will take to cure diarrhoea?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain loose motion in your child can be due to common cause can be stomach infection leading to Gastroenteritis..

The medications given are antibiotic that is Taxim-O and Rinofol that is probiotic and nutritional supplement containing Zinc , folic acid etc are suitable if there is infection..

In case if there is no improvement in 3 to 4 days after taking medication, you should get confirmation of the exact cause of the loose motions and get treated accordingly..

You need to consult a Paediatrician and get him evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical examination and advise investigations like Stool culture and blood tests to confirm the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can give him more of oral rehydration salts by dissolving in water to prevent dehydration..
You can give him banana, multigrain bread, cereals, rice and yoghurt in diet..
Give him sufficient water..

Once he gets diagnosed for the exact cause of loose motions if there is infection antibiotics will be advised..
