Are RGP Contact Lenses Safe?
I have worn RGP contacts for the last 20 years and I have had trouble finding Doctors in my area that know much about them or that prescribe them regularly. The last 3 doctors over the last 10 years have warned me that I (they) have to get them right the first time because they are not refundable. My most resent doctor (this week) told me off the top of his head that each lens costs $200 when I told him that I paid $75 a lens 2 years ago he seemed surprised. What's the deal with RGP, now?<br>

RGP lenses means rigid gas permeable lenses and they are indicated for treatment of refractive errors which cannot be corrected by soft contact lenses as in case of astigmatism caused by causes like keratoconus.
RGP lenses are not preferred over soft lenses as soft contact lenses are more user friendly. Hence RGP lenses are usually advised for treatment of those conditons where the soft lenses cannot correct the refractive error.
