Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Iron Supplements Advisable For A Person With Adequate Hemoglobin?
I went to donate blood yesterday. During the check in process, I was informed that my hemoglobin level was adequate for me, but not enough for a blood donation. My diet consists of what should keep the number in line. Should I consider taking an iron supplement?
Hb can be low from low iron, low B12 or low folic acid. Until the appropriate tests are done to confirm what is low, I would suggest to my patient to take a multivitamin and assure fresh fruit and adequate protein in your diet so you can make healthy blood.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Kathy Shattler
