Are Cortisone And Benadryl Advisable To Treat Hives On The Face?
I was in the sun for about an hour Saturday and my face has hives and swollen and deep red on one side and I take several medications that can make you sensitive to sun. I ve had this to happen before and the only thing I know to do is use cortizone cream and take benadryl. Any other suggestions?
Hi. As per your case history of urticaria, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors to prevent exacerbation of hives. 2. Don't take any medication without consulting a doctor as it may worsen the condition. 3. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region. 4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine once daily for 6 weeks. 5. Other treatment options are oral steroid, hydroxyzine, colchicine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
