Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are B12 Injections Sufficient To Control Vitamin-B12 Deficiency?
I am 69 and had my gall bladder removed about eight years ago
I have now been diagnosed as having vitamin B12 deficiency.
I am sure he said my level was 60 and what is considered the lowest safe mark is 80, but that seems to disagree with other levels I've read quoted. I'm in the UK - is the chart different here?
The other thing I need to know is whether a three monthly injection of b12 - which is what I'm currently having, is sufficent. Three months is a long time between injections.
Is there any special care I have to take re B12 because of my gall bladder removal? Thanks
hello thank you for your query first i have to tell you that three monthly injection is sufficient as our body store is much much higher than daily requirment. moreover B12 deficiency has no connection with GB.as it is a water soluble vitamin..you may have AUTOIMMUNE gastritis/pernicious anaemia. consult a hematologist for that. and consult a neurologist too as vit B12 deficiency is associated with certain neurological symptoms related to posterior column. hope this is helpful. regards.
