Hi,

What your doctor may have thought to prescribe painkillers is that there is simply a pulled muscle which causes pain upon compression and difficulties expanding your thoracic cage. In that case, I don't think any other treatment is necessary, only painkillers for the symptoms and with time should improve.

Another possibility would be that of anxiety being responsible for the symptoms in which case some breathing relaxation exercises might be of help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
