Any Suggestions For Swollen Arm Due To Saline Injection?
Hi, today I had a CT scan done. I had two brain aneurysm surgeries one in 1988 and the second in 2004. Periodically I have an MRI or CT done to check the brain of course. Well, I have had many many IVs with contrast for the procedure and nothing unusual ever happened. Today some of the saline was injected into the tissue not the vein (I am guessing) and the upper arm got very swollen. That was six hours ago and it is still swollen. Any suggestions?

Hello, Thanks for your query. Assuming there is no cut on the outside, please apply (dont rub) a local heparin based cream 2-3 times a day eg Thrombophobe or Dolobene gel (some trade names)& this will surely help reduce it. Note there may be an underlying hematoma that will resolve with some residual pigmentation in the area & will change colour but resolve over the subsequent days or week. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
