Allergy To Sulfa Drugs, Lasix. Any Sulfa Free Diuretic That Can Be Taken?

I have an allergy to sulfa drugs and have found out (after having a rash for 5 months) that I'm also allergic to my Lasix. My doctor tells me that there are no truly sulfa-free diuretics, but I simply cannot believe (accept) that. Please tell me that there is a truly sulfa-free diuretic I can take. I have gained 13lbs. of fluid since stopping the Lasix and I'm miserable!!

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

If you have sufa allergy, a diuretic that does not contain a sulfonamide group can be used safely.
In addition to ethacrynic acid (Edecrin), sulfa free diuretics include
1. Amiloride
2. Triamterene
3. Spironolactone,
4. Eplernone.

Please do not use the following sulfa containing diuretics if you have sulfa allergy like carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, loop diuretics, and thiazides.

Hope this helps.
Please reply for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
