Dear
Welcome ton HCM
We understand your concerns

Addiction to liquor cure is usually done with the help of de-addiction therapy. Therapy includes medicines, hospital admission, addiction therapy etc. but all these can be averted if you have strong mind. Consult a psychologist for psychotherapy or deaddiction therapy. I can help you if you desire so. Stop liquior soon.

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
Hi,

From the description of your drinking pattern it does sound like you are dependent on it. You have strong cravings for it, find it hard to resist and have been taking it quite regularly mostly in the evenings. You have not mentioned if you have any physical symptoms on abstaining from alcohol for a few days or not.

Revia is Naltrexone which is used as an anti-craving agent for patients with alcohol dependence to help them abstain from alcohol. It is not taken on 'before/after drink' basis. First you need to go through an evaluation to confirm whether you have dependence or not by a psychiatrist, next would be detoxification (hospital/out patient basis) and then once you have achieved abstinence from alcohol only then would you be started on naltrexone in order to reduce cravings. This would be under supervision.

Psychological management is very useful. Motivation enhancement therapy would do wonders in helping you abstain.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao
