Addicted To Suboxone, Feeling High Like From Powerful Amphetamine. Drinking Heavily. How To Quit?

My wifes doctor has been giving her Suboxone for almost a year now. She has been getting high from the drug, almost as if she is on some powerful amphetimine, or speed ! He has not put her into any program or treatment.Yet he continues to give it to her as long as she keeps asking. She is drinking heavily while on these meds.
It is tearing our family apart, what can i do ? She is now addicted to the high from the Suboxone...
What can i do to end this madness ?

Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Please talk to your wife's doctor, preferably in her absence, and inform him about the euphoric effects as well as her heavy alcohol intake. Since Suboxone is a controlled drug and cannot be prescribed without any specific indication, please ask her doctor why she has been prescribed this and how long does he intend to continue the prescription. Most commonly it is prescribed to people on intravenous opioids like heroin who are unwilling to quit, in order to reduce the harm and risks associated with intravenous drug abuse. Even if your wife was prescribed Suboxone for this indication, if she is getting too high, then the doctor can reduce the dose. Heavy alcohol intake while on Suboxone may be dangerous as there is a risk of respiratory depression and seizures. Her doctor must be informed about this.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
