Acute Weakness, Constipation, Movement Disorder, Low Speech, Urinary Inconsistency. On Syndopa Plus. Previous Progressive Super Nuclear Palsy. Advise?

Hello, My father has been suffering from acute weakness, constipation, movement disorder (Cannot balance while walking),low speech, urinary inconsistance. He has very sharp memory though. Had all his test done in Lilavati a couple of yrs ago and they said that he might be getting into parkinsons. Anyways then he had a fall and fractured his hip which was replaced at workart hospital goa. There again all the test were taken and after being in the hospital for nearly a month the doctors there diagnosed him for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy .. till date there is still a confusion with the doctors on detecting what exactly is wrong with my fater. As on today he is taking syndopa plus and some anti oxidants. But he is still loosing weight and not gaining weight whatever we do. Kindly let me know who will be the right doctor who can guide us through letting us know what exactly is wrong. We are currently living in Goa.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
From your query i understood that you are worried about what to be the cause for your father's Progressive supranuclear palsy.
Still the cause for this is under research.
But Scientists suspected few causes.
1. Unknown virus that may enter the body and it become active after many years then it cause signs and symptoms
2. Scientists found a abnormal protein clumps in brain called tau. It may be the cause for this disease.
3. Mutation ie. changes in normal gene in cell can damage entire cell and lead the disease.
4. Some free radicals ( ie. byproducts of energy production in our body) can cause injury to brain cells. this damage lead to symptoms and signs of the disease.

It is very difficult to find the specific cause of Progressive supranuclear palsy.
It is better to spend time in management of disease than further investigation.

Parkinson drugs carbidopa- levodopa and antidepressants are helpful.
Physiotherapy and psychological support is very essential.
Please follow Physician and neurologist advice.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
