Hi,
Your doctor has given you the right treatment, the pain killers do help you and yes there is no known cure for
migraine. But there were other things she could have told you for example-
get enough sleep, but dont overdo it
rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on
Keep a headache diary
Thew diary is without a doubt the most useful and best option you have, in list everything like the date when a migraine started and how long did it last, also list down possible triggers and avoid them as much as you can, triggers vary widely and can be smells, food, bright lights, sounds, missing sleep etc etc. You have to make an effort to find your triggers on your own, once that is done, avoiding them is the best form of treatment.
Alternative therapy that has helped some patients include
acupuncture and massages.
I hope this answered your question, do feel free to ask me if you have any further questions.
