Accidently Swallowed Kerosene. Stomach Sick, Threw Up, Bad Taste In Mouth. How Dangerous Is It?
yes we are missionaries in Tanzania and very remote it is 11pm and my daughter accidentally swallowed a small mouthful of kerosene - she felt sick in the stomach initially but then threw it up about 10 minutes later, we gave her loads of water initially how dangerous is it - she has no sympotoms now but a bad taste in her mouth
It's unfortunate that your daughter has taken kerosene accidentally. I have no way to guess the time duration elapsed since occurrence of the accident.
If it is more than 6 hours, no first-aid procedures towards emptying the stomach would be effective. The side effects of kerosene poisoning will last for 24-48 hours.
Give her liquid paraffin in liberal doses, butter and, antacid gel 30ml every 4-6 hours; anti-vomiting tablet to prevent vomiting, which can trickle into the lungs and cause chemical pneumonia.
I hope that your daughter will recover soon.
