Abdominal Cramping, Nausea, Frequent Bowel Movements, Back Pain. Due To Stomach Flu?

Hello. I have been experiencing constant cramping on the right side of my abdomen for a bout a month and a half. After eating I experience sharp pain in the epigastric region of my abdomen. I have had constant nausea and about 5-8 bowel movements a day. Stool is a light brownish reddish color. The pain in my right side has now started to radiate to my back. I was seen in an Urgent Care 4 weeks ago and diagnosed with gastritis also known as the common stomach flu. Can a stomach flu last this long?

hello,
Thank you for consulting HCM.Stomach flu is also know as gastroenteritis and it may be caused by virus or bacteria. If the cause is due to virus then it takes nearly 1week to be resolved. If stool is bloody then less likely to be virus.Bacterial infections may persists for several weeks. You need to continue the treatment if you have still symptoms and you need to be hydrated to.Thank you.

Hi, many thanks for the query!
Yes, gastritis is a chronic problem unless you stop eating spicy food, avoid alcohol & also late night meals.
You need to do- USG (Abdo-Pelvis), X-ray KUB, Stool (R/M),
RFT, CBC, Urine (R/M).
Your pain may be renal stone related, can be confirmed with above investigations.
Till then take antispasmodics, pain killers, antacids, diuretics with
your doctor's opinion.
Drink plenty of water so that at least 2 litres of urine is voided in 24 hrs.
Wish you a good health.
Take care.
Regards.
