A close relative has been tentatively diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

A close relative has been tentatively diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He was placed a medication that had very severe dermatologic side effedfts. He was schedule for a biopsy yesterday but the "shadow" seen on x-ray/CT was now "empty" on MRI so biopsy cancelled. Also apparently has swollen lymph nodes in his groin area. He is becoming increasingly apprehensive and frustrated with no real diagnosis.

Hi Doctor, my mother-in-law has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. It has taken the physicians months to figure out what is wrong, she is on oxygen almost 24/, very short of breath & major weight loss. She just started treatment of Prednesone. Mayo has indicated from her biopsies and labs they do not know the cause. I know this is a progressive disease and not curable. Can you tell me from you persepective what her life expectany is? She is 77 years.

Hi - I have a friend who was diagnosed with Pulmonary fibrosis a couple of years ago --- now he was told he has a TB marker. Are these two diseases related and how serious might this be? He placed himself on two transplant lists (for lungs) however they told him he wasn t a candidate yet. Is he contagious with the TB marker? He coughs all the time and spits up phelgm. thanks -
